Rio Grande do Sul cooperatives buy 238 thousand MWh per year in joint auction

Creral, Cooperluz, Cerdições and Certhil disbursed R$606 million for contracting until 2040 at an average price of R$133.88 per MWh

Four cooperatives from Rio Grande do Sul promoted last Tuesday, October 6th, the first joint electronic auction to purchase electricity on the free market, contracting 27.2 average MW, of which 6.5 MWmed for Creral, from Erechim, 7.5 MWmed for Cooperluz, in Santa Rosa, 9.7 MWmed for Cermissão, in Caibaté and 3.5 MWmed for Certhil, in Três de Maio.
Delivery should begin on January 1, 2022 and end on December 31, 2040. The volume sold is 238.2 thousand MWh/year, which results in an average price of R$133.88 per MWh. In current values, the amount will be R$606 million distributed over a period of 19 years, in a contract that also provides for future adjustments to meet the growth of the cooperative market.
The auction was structured and conducted by the company Alphainfra, from Porto Alegre. The energy will be supplied by the supplier Electra, based in Curitiba (PR), which offered the lowest price. The bidding process will still be analyzed and approved by Aneel, in order to come into force.
In the management's assessment, the auction is an important moment as the union is essential to achieve a price lower than that practiced in the market, exceeding expectations, since from the end of July 2021 it will be possible to reduce tariffs to 61 thousand members from 92 municipalities in the north and northwest regions of Rio Grande do Sul.
